The Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering Fine Chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering & Fine Chemistry was found on the basis of section of pharmaceutical engineering and fine chemistry in 2002. The department now has 25 staff, including 7 professors, 6 associate professors, 6 lecturers and research assistants. Among the staff, 6 teachers are Ph.D advisors.



The department is the main establishment of the national key discipline, applied chemistry. It offers doctoral and master programs in the fields of applied chemistry, chemical techniques, materials chemistry, organic chemistry and catalytic chemistry. The department offers two undergraduate specialities: pharmaceutical engineering and chemical techniques. In the past two decades, the department has nurtured about 1000 undergraduates, 200 graduates, 40 doctorate students, 6 post-doctoral talents and several students abroad. In the recent years, great achievements have been obtained in scientific research, such as the undertaking of 50 scientific research items, the publishment of 400 papers in the core periodicals both at home and abroad, 10 works, 20 entitled patents, 5 state-level prizes and more than10 provincial or higher awards.


As the Center of Medicine Intermediate Engineering Technology of Jiangsu Province, the Center of Fine Chemical Engineering of Nanjing, and the carrier of Water Treatment Engineering Technology of Nanjing, the department undertakes substantial tasks for many organizations, such as Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense, the National Ministry of Science and Technology, the Bureau of Science & Technology of Jiangsu Province and lots of local enterprises. Its main research fields involve the preparation and application of fine chemicals and medicines, the synthesis and technical research of organic intermediates, the theoretical and applied research of nitration, oxidation, and catalytic hydrogenation, surface chemistry as well as the preparation & application of surfactants, industrial assistant agents, non-pollution chemical engineering and so on. The department enjoys high popularity at home in the research and exploitation of organic intermediates.


The department has been emphasizing on the exchange and co-operation with foreign counterparts, thus has set up good relationship with many foreign universities and scientific institutes. Some senior visiting scholars have been sent abroad to give lectures, attend academic exchange activities and many foreign counterparts have been invited for the same purposes. This has promoted the development of the department both in its internal and external aspects, and has built a solid foundation for establishing a new talent-training mode.
