On January 9 to 10, 2015 International Workshop on Pattern Recognition and Big Data Analysis was held in Academic Conference Center, NUST. This forum aims at promoting the communication between research fellows in fields of pattern recognition and big data analysis and discussing future their future development in China. Six world well-known prominent experts delivered relevant speeches in the forum, which attracted more than 100 scholars and graduate students auditing and joining.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor YANG Jian, who addressed the audience about the information of the forum and guest experts. Later on, Vice President of NUST, LIAO Wenhe representing Nanjing University of Science and Technology delivered keynote speech by welcoming and thanking those attendees, giving his warmest congratulations on the kickoff of the forum, and wishing everyone present could exchange ideas to the largest extent, and obtain something meaningful.
Followed the opening ceremony was the segment of speeches and lectures. Professor Joost N. Kok, from University of Leiden, Netherlands, introduced how to dig and manage data based on subject. The method starts from realistic issues and then tries to find the connection between subjects. Professor Kok illustrates the application results in the field of bio-medicine. Afterwards, Professor ZHOU Zhihua focused on incremental refining algorithm of big data learning, i.e., pre-learned model through incremental learning can be better and effectively utilized.
In the afternoon of January 9, Professor GUO Tianyou from Hongkong University of Science and Technology introduced the distribution model applied in big data and random machine learning method, which enabled alternative direction multiplier algorithm to be better used in the machine learning of big data by utilizing previous gradient information and distribution model technology. Followed this was a speech presented by Professor LI Tao, who explained data digging system they developed. After exhibiting its features of quickness, integration, user-friendly and compatibility with distribution model system, he covered its practical application.
In the following day, Professor LIU Xiaohui from Brunel University, UK, covered four challenges and opportunities in current big data analysis task after the introduction of fluctuation of data science. Later on, Professor WANG Xiaogang from Chinese University of Hong Kong showed the successful application of in-depth learning in the field of face recognition by excellent experimental result and clear analysis and certification.
