NUST Performed Well at National 13th “Challenge Cup”

 

“Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate curricular academic Science and Technology works by race known as the Chinese college students’ science and technology “Olympic” Event.

The grand finale of the 13th “Challenge Cup” was held at Suzhou University on October 13th to 18th, 2013. At last, NUST earned a total score of 340, ranking sixth together with Peking University and Beihang University, who were awarded “Excellent Cup”.

 

Starting from this March, nearly 2000 universities and colleges attended the 13th Challenge Cup with about 20,000 works. After professional selection of the judge jury, 1135 pieces of works coming from 440 universities and colleges entered into the final. During the on-site exhibition, six works from NUST survived three tough rounds, respectively judgement of work introduction, on-site inquiry and public defense and entered the following final round of the national final. Among the six works, the one instructed by Chen Lei with School of Optical and Electronic Engineering was awarded outstanding winner prize, the one instructed by Chen Xin with School of Chemical Engineering and the one instructed by Ji Fangtong with School of Humanities and Social Sciences earned first prize, the one instructed by Tang Weihua with School of Chemical Engineering and the one instructed by Guo Jian with School of Automation got second prize and the one instructed by Sui Xiubao with School of Optical and Electronic Engineering got third prize. In addition, a work from School of Optical and Electronic Engineering acquired second prize of trans-innovation, and a work from School of Computer Science obtained the bronze prize of accumulated innovation. What’s more, NUST was awarded “Excellent University Organizer” Prize.

As the first “Challenge Cup” entrepreneurial innovation demonstrating park, Suzhou Industrial Park signed memorandums of cooperation with 12 prestigious universities, including NUST, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University and China University of Science and Technology etc. This means good sci & tech innovation program from our university would have the priority to settle at the park and gain several favorable policy supports.

Thanks to the support and attention from university leaders, departments and schools, NUST acquired the excellent performance at this race. They expressed that NUST would grasp the chance to further integrate advantages of relevant subjects, and turn it to develop NUST students’ innovation programs.
