NJUST Hold the Nanjing Area Finals of 2019 China-US Young Maker Competition

On the morning of June 29, the finals of the 2019 Sino-US Youth Maker Competition(CUYMC) in Nanjing area was hold in our university. Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, CUYMC is one of the important achievements in the sixth meeting of the China-US high-level consultation on cultural communication.


This competition attracted more than 180 teams and 805 young makers from over 30 universities, including Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Hohai University, etc. And finally 42 teams of those entered the final competition. Their works are brilliant and varied, such as Mechanical Exoskeletons that can help outdoor workers improve their work efficiency; Intelligent Warning Board, which can give voice before smokers smoke in public places by the using sensors and identifying images.


Our university's selected and sent eight works, which came from Department of Student Affairs, School of Design and Communication, Special Robotics Engineering Center in the school of Mechanical Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of Computer Science and Technology, etc. And three of them out performed in the final competition. It is worth mentioning that “Instrumented Intelligent management platform of dangerous chemicals Federation” won the second prize and the team of “PinPin Literacy” won the outstanding team prize. Representing the Nanjing area, they will go to Beijing a month later to compete with other areas’ makers as well as the American makers for the ultimate competition. 


It is reported that for five consecutive years, our school has encouraged many universities in Jiangsu and surrounding provinces, as well as famous enterprises such as Google, Dell, Skyworth coocaa to take the lead in hosting the CUYMC in Nanjing, and has had good impact on society. The Nanjing area have performed well in previous final competition each year. For the final competition, Nanjing competition area won the third prize in 2016, the second prize in 2017 and the third prize in 2018. The works that stand out in Nanjing this year will not only receive generous bonuses, but also receive support from the government of Qinhuai District in terms of policy funds, venues and services.
