NJUST Held 2019 Opening Ceremony for International Students

On the morning of September 20th, the 2019 opening ceremony for  international students of NJUST was held in the library. Present at the ceremony were Vice President Liao Wenhe, teachers' representative Prof. Zhu Zhiwei, etc. 172 international freshmen from 42 overseas countries and regions including from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan attended the ceremony.


The opening ceremony was presided over by Yang Guolai, Dean of the School of International Education. At the beginning, Liao Wenhe, on behalf of the school, congratulated and welcomed the arrival of the new students. He briefly introduced the history and development of NJUST and put forward three earnest hopes for the new students:


First, he advised students adapt to the school life as soon as possible and immerse into academic study, Chinese language and culture. Second, he wished students abide by Chinese laws and the school’s rules and regulations, and respect the customs of different countries and nationalities. Third, he proposed the philosophy insist”- to insist ondreams, beliefs, and individual choices.


Prof. Zhu Zhiwei of the School of Mechanical Engineering, put forward many valuable suggestions on students’ study and life in China based on his own overseas study, teaching and research experience.


Student representatives Jia Wade,  Yang Xiaomeng and Yao Zhengyu respectively made speeches in both Chinese and English, sharing their feelings of learning and living in China. At the end of the ceremony, the International Student Art Troupe brought wonderful singing and dancing performance.


In recent years, NJUST has responded actively to the The Belt and Road” policy, which has a great demand for the cultivation of international talents. Therefore, NJUST increased the recruitment of international students from The Belt and Road” countries. At present, the number of international students at NJUST maintains around 1,000. The students come from more than 70 countries and regions around the world.
