Construction of GSU-NJUST Confucius Institute Approved

In August, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) approved the NJUST’s application for jointly building the Confucius Institute with Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (GSU), Belarus. It is the only Confucius Institute approved by the Hanban in Europe in the past three years, and also the first Confucius Institute co-constructed by NJUST.

NJUST attaches great importance to the co-construction of the Confucius Institute at GSU. Headed by the president, a leading group was set up to deal with the relevant affairs, which includes recommending the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, formulating the Confucius Institute Executive Agreement and the Constitution of the Board of Directors, fulfilling the start-up budget and so on. The opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute at the GSU is supposed to be held at Gomel in November this year.

Gomel is the second largest city after the capital city of Minsk, with a special geographical location and borders on Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania. At present, GSU has already established a Confucius Classroom, however, it can’t meet the needs to learn Chinese language and culture for learners from Gomel State. Meanwhile, with the construction of the Belt and Road, the establishment of the Confucius Institute at GSU will greatly promote the development of Chinese language talent training and the exchange of Chinese language and culture in Gomel and surrounding areas.
