Prof. Wang Zeshan won the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award

The 2017 awarding ceremony of the State Science and Technology Award was grandly held at the Great Hall of the People on January 8th, 2018. President Xi jinping and other national leaders, including Li Keqiang, Zhang Gaoli, Wang Huning, etc. attended the ceremony. 


Prof. Wang Zeshan, a leading scientist from NJUST, was conferred the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award by President Xi Jinping. And he was invited to make a speech at the ceremony on behalf of the winners due to his great contribution to the development of explosives.


Known as the King of Explosives, Wang, 82, has published 15 books and more than 100 technical papers. In 1999, he was elected as an academician at the CAE. As a leading professor at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, he has supervised more than 90 doctoral students.


Established by the State Council of China in 2000, the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award is the highest honor in China’s science and technology sector, and no more than two scientists will be awarded each year. As of January 2017, a total of 27 top scientists have been awarded. Since the establishment of the award, NJUST has become a fourth university that has won the award after Peking University, Tsinghua University and Fudan University.
